Sybase European Partner Summit
Two interesting days in Hamburg
A few weeks ago we visited the Sybase European Partner Summit in Hamburg, Germany and it turned out to be an interesting and funny event. We met many new people and had good conversations.
It was fascinating to see in how many Gartner Magic Quadrants Sybase is the market leader. Many partners used the Sybase products to create unique solutions that would not be possible without the underlying Sybase stuff.
On the first day we saw presentations from SAP and Apple. Nicholas Kontopoulos from SAP has delivered the by far best presentation I have ever seen from a SAP employee – and trust me, during my 5 years at SAP I saw many of them ;-). If you have the chance to see him, you should not miss it. He will be on November, 3rd in Amsterdam at “The Mobile Enterprise ‘09” (http://www.mobileenterprise09.com/) . Btw, we will be there too.
The Apple presentation was not that interesting, but it was good to see that Apple is taking the enterprise market serious.
On the evening Sybase invited us on boat cruise in the Hamburg harbor. Dinner was served on the ship and we had a guide who explained us everything: “On the right you can see …” – the only problem was that it was dark outside and we could not see a thing … we still enjoyed the food, the wine and some good conversations.
On the second day I learned a lot about Sybase products, I had not dealt with so far – Afari for example. So it was worth the trip to Hamburg.
I’m looking forward to the next partner summit in 2010.
