The Mobile Enterpise 09

1-day show packed with information

On November 3rd, I attended the Sybase event Mobile Enterprise 09, which was the largest event this year in Europe about Mobility. More than 200 people came together in Amsterdam.

On the Agenda we had a IDC keynote presenting research into business and technological trends and influences affecting European Enterprise Mobility. Did you know that 90% of female employees will not come back to work after maternity because of inflexible working conditions e.g. no work from home possible? Interesting how much know-how is lost because companies cannot provide “mobile” workplaces.

SAP showed how they incorporate the iPhone in the enterprise. I like the workflow on the iPhone, really nice integration with all the look and feel you await from an iPhone app. Later the day the same integration was shown on a Windows Mobile device, which can by far not keep up with the design standard the iPhone sets.

The Apple speaker emphasized, in the typical Apple way, that they take the business market really serious and that the iPhone 3GS is enterprise-ready. Their reference Logica Germany has 2000 iPhones implemented. (http://www.apple.com/iphone/business/profiles/logica/)

The highlight of the day was the announcement by Sybase that Afaria and SQL Anywhere are now also available for the iPhone. (http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=1066136)

After a networking lunch we went into the technology afternoon tracks. I attended the SUP (Sybase Unwired Platform) and SAP integration track. Nicholas Kontopoulos and Daniel Faulk from SAP hold a Q&A Session. Holger Gauss from Sybase demoed the technical aspects of the SUP. Finally I had the chance to speak about how we, msc mobile, see the possibilities to mobilize SAP business processes on the SUP platform.

It was a great event, lots information and interesting new contacts.
