Online applications - dream on ...
Why it doesn't work ...
Today I realized that it is me who is right, not the others. The topic I talk about? Online and Offline applications.
When I speak to people who are in IT like me and I tell them what I do, many of them tell me: "Why do we need offline applications? What you do makes no sense, we are online everywhere now - 3G, WLAN, something is always available". Ahh, yes? Really? Dream on!
I am in a hotel in the UK at the moment. I have 3G here, I have WLAN. Well, WLAN is 40 GBP for one week! Holy shit! But thanks god I got a 3G card from a colleague. That allows me to go online for 10 GBP (1GB) - not too bad, not to expensive either.
But does that work? Well, at least sometimes it does. But for no good reason, the connection breaks if I move my laptop. But isn't moving a mobile device the reason why it is mobile? To make it better, sometimes the connection breaks for no reason at all. Maybe the wind changed, I do not know.
So do not tell me that online applications are what my customers need. This will not work out!
