Wow ... wow!
Remember when you saw "The sixth sense" with Bruce Willis the first time? Or the end of "The Empire strikes back"? That is the feeling I had yesterday.
This announcement yesterday made me speechless ... at first. But when you think about it - it makes total sense.
We are a Sybase Partner, we know their mobile technology very well. I said this many times before: SUP by Sybase is in my opinion the best mobile enterprise platform available today. Looks like SAP thinks the same. I hope that this move will end all the "Is this really better then NetWeaver Mobile?" and "This is great, but we only want SAP software!" statements from customers.
And finally I hope that this will bring some stability to the SAP Mobile market. Hopefully all the flip-flop that was done the last years by SAP, we were never sure which way they would go next, will end. Now they have the best platform available, I hope they will use it for all their future mobile solutions!
But what does this mean to all the other mobility partners of SAP like Syclo and Sky Technologies? Or all the startups like Vivido Labs? This is not good news for them.
I still do not know what I should think about this. Yes, this makes total sense for SAP, for Sybase and for all of their customers. But with the big announcement that we will make next week at SAPPHIRE ... I guess I have to digest these news first. But the future looks bright now ;-)
